1. Eligibility Criteria

  • Purpose: Only for patients seeking short-term medical treatment.
  • Eligible Countries: Available to nationals of 170+ countries (check the “Eligibility” tab on the official site).
  • Passport: Must have at least six months’ validity from the date of arrival and at least two blank pages.
  • Frequency: You can apply for an e-Visa a maximum of 3 times in a single calendar year.

2. Document Requirements

Before starting the application, prepare digital copies of the following:

  • Passport Bio Page: A scanned PDF copy of the page containing your personal details and photo (Size: 10 KB to 300 KB).
  • Digital Photograph: A recent front-facing color photo with a white background (Format: JPEG; Size: 10 KB to 1 MB; equal height and width).
  • Medical Invitation Letter: A scanned copy of the letter from the relevant hospital in India on its official letterhead, mentioning the name of the patient, the
  • doctor, and the nature of the treatment.

3. Step-by-Step Application Process

  • Online Application: Visit the e-Visa website and click on “Apply here for e-Visa“.
  • Select Visa Category: Choose “e-Medical Visa” as your visa service.
  • Fill Details: Enter your personal, passport, and travel information accurately. Ensure the name matches your passport exactly.
  • Upload Documents: Upload your photo and the PDF of your passport bio page and the hospital’s invitation letter.
  • Pay Fee: Pay the e-Visa fee online using a credit/debit card or payment wallet. Fees vary by nationality. Note: The fee is non-refundable.
  • Receive ETA: Once processed (usually within 72–96 hours), your Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) will be sent to your email.
  • Print ETA: You must carry a printed copy of the ETA with you when you travel to India.

4. Validity and Stay

  • Duration: The e-Medical Visa is valid for 60 days from the date of your first arrival in India.
  • Entries: It is a Triple Entry visa, meaning you can enter the country three times within the 60-day window.
  • Attendants: Up to two “e-Medical Attendant” visas can be granted to family members/associates accompanying the patient. They must apply separately using the patient’s visa details.

5. Important Points

  • Timeline: Apply at least 4 days before your arrival date. You can apply up to 120 days in advance.
  • Entry Points: You can only enter through designated international airports (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore). Entry via land borders is not permitted on an e-Visa.
  • Yellow Fever: If arriving from a Yellow Fever-affected country, you must carry an original Yellow Fever Vaccination Card, or you will be quarantined for 6 days.
  • Warning: Beware of “fake” websites that charge extra fees. Always ensure you are on the .gov.in domain.
