Prof. (Dr.) Subhash Gupta is a globally acclaimed Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary (HPB) Surgeon with over 37 years of experience, widely recognized as a pioneer of Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) in the Indian subcontinent. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Max Centre for Liver and Biliary Sciences at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket, which is one of the world’s largest liver transplant programs.

Dr. Gupta’s academic journey began at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, where he completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery before pursuing advanced surgical training and fellowships at premier institutions in the UK, including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and St. James’s University Hospital, Leeds. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Clinically, Dr. Gupta has successfully performed over 3,000 liver transplants and is noted for his meticulous approach to complex procedures, including robotic-assisted transplants and Whipple’s surgery for pancreatic cancer. His contributions extend beyond the operating room; he is credited with standardizing treatment guidelines for liver diseases in India and has mentored transplant programs in countries like Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

His illustrious career is marked by prestigious honors, including the Dr. B.C. Roy Award (2016), the Yash Bharti Award, and the Vishist Chikitsa Rattan. As an active researcher and academic, he has published over 100 scientific papers and continues to hold honorary professorships at institutions such as IPGMER, Kolkata, and the Apollo Health Education and Research Foundation.
