Dr. Vinod Raina is a pioneer and a towering figure in the field of Medical Oncology in India, with over 40 years of clinical and research experience. He currently serves as the Chairman of Oncosciences at Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram, Delhi NCR.
An elite alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, he completed his MBBS, MD, and DM (Medical Oncology) at the institution before serving as Professor and Head of Medical Oncology for over a decade. His international credentials are equally distinguished, as he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) of both London and Edinburgh and served as an Honorary Research Fellow at Oxford University.
Dr. Raina is credited with several medical breakthroughs in India, including performing the country’s first peripheral blood stem cell transplant in 1994 and introducing high-dose chemotherapy. He has personally performed or supervised over 600 bone marrow and stem cell transplants, the highest volume in the country, specializing in both autologous and allogeneic procedures. His clinical expertise covers a vast spectrum of malignancies, including Breast, Lung, Gastrointestinal, and Genitourinary cancers, as well as Lymphomas and Leukemias.
A visionary in research, he co-founded the INDOX Network to foster international collaboration in cancer research and has published more than 200 papers in high-impact journals like The Lancet. He is a recipient of the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal from the President of India and is widely regarded as a mentor to an entire generation of oncologists across the globe.
