Dr. (Prof.) Kameshwar Prasad is a globally distinguished Neurologist and a strong proponent of Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM), with over 40 years of profound experience in clinical practice, research, and academia. He currently serves as the Principal Director of Neurology at Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospital, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, and holds the title of Professor Emeritus of Neurology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he served on the faculty for 34 years and headed the department.
His comprehensive education includes an MBBS from Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (where he was named Best Medical Graduate), and his MD in Medicine and DM in Neurology from AIIMS, New Delhi, complemented by an MMSc in Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University, Canada.
Dr. Prasad’s clinical expertise spans a wide range of complex neurological conditions, including Stroke (where he is a pioneer of stem cell therapy in India), Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Meningitis.
He has made seminal contributions to public health by pioneering Evidence-Based Healthcare in India, co-founding the Indian Stroke Society, and authoring over 400 publications, including the authoritative book Fundamentals of Evidence-Based Medicine. His international stature is underscored by his role as a member of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group (Brain Health), a former editor of the Cochrane Stroke Review Group, and his receipt of the prestigious civilian honour, the Padma Shri award in 1991.
